Here's everything we know about the next installment in the ongoing Dirty John anthology series.
Another limited series that just couldn’t stay limited, Dirty John is coming back for a second season in 2020. We’ll be moving on from the story of charismatic Con Man John Meehan, which was first spun into a successful podcast by Christopher Goffard. The first season was a surprise hit for Bravo and co-producer Netflix, and the network and streaming service will likely be hoping that season 2 claims just as many viewers, if not more.
Season 2, Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, will lay out an “epic true tale of love gone wrong — a story that spans the 1960s to the ’80s, through the breakdown of a marriage that Oprah deemed one of ‘America’s messiest divorces’ even before it ended in double homicide,” according to the official logline.
Here’s what we know so far…
Dirty John Season 2 Cast
Christian Slater and Amanda Peet are the two leads of Dirty John season 2. Slater is now happy to roam TV Land picking his choice of projects, having starred in of Mr. Robot, which ends this year, and has also leant his voice to a very serious undercover CIA agent in longrunning animated comedy series, Archer. Peet has previously had roles on the small screen in Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, Brockmire, and last year’s The Romanoffs, as well as an extensive film career that includes hits like Something’s Gotta Give and Identity.
Dirty John Season 2 Plot
In season 2, titled Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, the story will cover a ’60s-’80s time period. According to Variety, Peet will star as Betty Broderick, a “perfect Southern California blonde wife and mother married to her handsome college boyfriend Dan (Slater). After years of sacrifice and suffering while supporting Dan through both medical and law school until he exploded into the San Diego legal community as a superstar, Betty is finally enjoying the fruits of their labors. That is, until Dan hires Linda, a bright, beautiful young woman with whom he can happily forget the struggles of his past.”
You can learn more about the case here, or avoid it if you’d rather not spoil season 2 more than you have to.
“The first season of Dirty John was a story of twisted love and coercive control and both these insidious elements are also present in and integral to the story of Betty Broderick, whom I have wanted to write about since I became a writer,” said series creator Alexandra Cunningham in a statement. “I can’t wait to see Amanda and Christian bring it to life.”
