Pennywise isn't the only creepy clown terrorizing America. Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens and Geeks trailer teases forbidden zones.
It: Chapter Two has everyone watching the skies for floating balloons, but the Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens and Geeks teaser-trailer shows far more dangerous clowning around in space. The film features Verne Troyer (Austin Powers, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) in his last role as Clown Emperor Beezel-Chugg.
Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens and Geeks is directed by Richard Elfman, and reunites him with the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, who hit screens in the cult classic Forbidden Zone. Richard told Den of Geek “most of the original Oingo Boingo members [are] on the soundtrack. And that’s Danny [Elfman]’s voice in alien and clown music backgrounds.” Richard Elfman has since directed delved into subversive horror with films like Shrunken Heads and Modern Vampires. He interrupted work on an ambitious Forbidden Zone 2 to shoot this quick low-budget science fiction comedy.
Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens and Geeks is irreverent, politically incorrect and exactly what a mad scientist would order. It follows the tradition of B-movie science fiction sendups like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and Mars Attacks. The movie can only really be described as zany, but in that classic comedy sense were logic is usurped by unreason. Imagine a Marx Brothers movie written by the surrealistic painter Salvador Dali and put on by Barnum and Bailey.
The film follows the asinine antics of an out-of-work actor who gives birth to the key to the universe in a protracted labor of love. There is no dialogue in the trailer, only the music of Danny Elfman (The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Simpsons) and Ego Plum (SpongeBob SquarePants, The Ghastly Love of Johnny X), but the visuals promise everything from martial arts madness to stellar doom.
You can watch the teaser here:
“Eddy Pine (Bodhi Elfman) is a jaded actor dealing with the cancellation of his series,” reads the official synopsis. “To complicate matters, he wakes up with the key to the universe stuck up his ass. Apparently an alien Clown Emperor is in hot pursuit of this, as are his rivals, the Green Aliens. Professor von Scheisenberg (French Stewart) and his comely Swedish assistants, the Svenson sisters (Rebecca Forsythe as Helga, Angeline-Rose Troy as Inga), come to Eddy’s aid. If only Eddy hadn’t fallen for Helga, and then the aliens manipulate his mind to confuse her with Inga! And when the mad little Clown Captain (Martin Klebba) steps on the gas and shifts his spaceship into fourth gear, all hell breaks loose.”
Richard Elfman plays the clown Da-Beep. His wife, Anastasia Elfman, plays five roles. Steve Agee plays a trans Burlesque dancer named Jumbo and the sidekick of a human clown mind-controlled by alien clowns played by Nik Novicki. George Wendt puts in a cameo as a priest.
Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens & Geeks should hit theaters this fall.
