The Lion King and Aladdin Games Are Being Remastered

admin

Bundled together, these classic Disney games are coming to modern consoles…

The classic video game versions of The Lion King and Aladdin, which originally tied into the iconic Disney animated movies, will receive remastered rereleases later this year. The games will be bundled as a single release for Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch this autumn.

This news was announced at a Gamestop-hosted conference, with box art for the game being shared on a big screen with the caption “coming this fall.” A Twitter user named @wolverinefactor quickly Tweeted the news, and the YouTube channel GameXplain later corroborated it. A photo from the event, featured in the video, is all the proof we need that this news is legit.

Of course, seeing as the movie versions of The Lion King and Aladdin have both been remade recently – earning much financial success, if not universal love from audiences and critics – it shouldn’t come as too much surprise that the classic tie-in games are being dusted off as well.

The Lion King game was originally developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive Entertainment, and it launched on the SNES and the Sega Genesis in 1994 (before being ported onto numerous other systems of the time).

The Aladdin game in question came out on the Genesis in 1993, and it was developed by Virgin Games. There was another (quite similar) Aladdin game — made by Capcom for the SNES — which was released around the same time. It’s the widely loved Virgin game that is being remastered, though, we’d assume.

Gematsu states that the remasters will reportedly hit 1080p resolutions, and they will include the classic soundtracks. The biggest new addition seems to be an assist feature, which will apparently allow you to rewind or fast-forward the games at any point.

We don’t have an exact release date or price point just yet, but we’ll let you know as more news comes to light.
