Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Confirmed

Multiplayer is coming to Cyberpunk 2077, but what will it look like?

After much speculation, CD Projekt Red confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will eventually receive a multiplayer mode.

“As we’re getting closer to launching ‘single player’ Cyberpunk 2077 in Apr. 2020, we’d like to confirm that multiplayer’s in the works,” said CD Projekt Red via Twitter. “The plan for now is to deliver Cyberpunk 2077 in April, then follow up with DLCs (free!) and single player content, and — once we’re done — invite you for some multiplayer action.”

Rumors regarding a potential Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mode have been floated around for a while now, but the discussion really heated up a few months ago when it was reported that CD Projekt Red was working with an outside studio to help develop the then-unconfirmed mode. Interestingly, the studio revealed that they are still people to work on the mode.

That tends to suggest that the Cyberpunk 2077‘s multiplayer is far from complete, which also means that we might not see it until the end of 2020 at the very earliest. Depending on how ambitious the mode is, we could actually get it even later than that.

As for what form Cyberpunk 2077‘s multiplayer will eventually take…well, that’s a great question. Our best bet is that it will be more than just a run-and-gun shooter, but there’s not much precedent for a game like this featuring multiplayer. It could just go the Deus Ex route and combine deathmatch-esque gameplay with RPG elements, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s actually closer to a Dark Souls experience in that the multiplayer will be integrated into the single-player game somehow.

Honestly, the real question at this point is whether or not Keanu Reeves and Johnny Silverhand will make an appearance in the eventual multiplayer.
